Valentine's Day

Valentines Day

It’s the month of romance! Hearts, flowers, cuddly toys and overpriced restaurant menus! But whether you like to go out or prefer to celebrate at home, it is always nice to have something special to wear on this annual ‘date night’. Oh let’s face it, it’s just another excuse to go shopping, so why complain?!

Traditionally Valentine’s Day is associated with the colour red – it’s all that love and passion apparently but to be honest, it’s not a colour I naturally gravitate towards, probably because psoriasis itself is about as red as I like to go! However, I will offer one token piece of scarlet for the traditionalists out there in the form of this Per Una High Neck Cherry Blossom blouse from Marks & Spencer. This has a nice loose fit which is always welcome if skin is inflamed, but as it has a very slight metallic thread running through (2% to be exact), it might be wise to check that it doesn’t cause any irritation before you remove all the tags!

Staying with Marks & Spencer, this Floral Print Long Sleeve Fit & Flare Dress also from Per Una has a lovely romantic feel to it. Although it is black, the pattern will conceal any flaking and it would look fabulous worn with skyscraper heels and opaque tights. For a very cool Spring time look, this can also be dressed down with trainers and a leather biker, making it a very versatile piece in your wardrobe.

For a special occasion it’s hard to beat the appeal of a dress, and this Polka Dot Dress from & Other Stories is particularly pretty. I know that many of you love to wear black, especially in the evenings. This allows you to do that as due to the profusion of white polka dots, there is no danger of flakes ruining your look. Pair with opaques or high denier tights and ankle boots; or indeed some over the knee boots would look gorgeous too! For a more casual daytime look (maybe he’s taking you to lunch?) this would be very cute with a pair of black patent brogues.

Staying with the polka dots, the above dress is also available in skirt form. The Polka Dot Skirt from & Other Stories would be gorgeous teamed with either a white silk shirt or white cashmere crew neck for a casual but stylish night time look. If you really want to inject some ‘fashion’ into the look, pair with a navy and white Breton and leopard print scarf.

The good old staple uniform of a dressy top, some coated skinnies and a pair of heels never fails and there are some gorgeous tops available right now. This Blush Wrap Front Long Sleeve Top from Next manages to be both sexy and demure (quite a feat!) and the detailing on the cuff is really lovely. The blush colour is very forgiving and works well with most skin tones. A perfect date night top for someone with psoriasis.

If however, you’d rather keep your décolletage covered, the Ruffle Sleeve Top also from Next is another lovely option. The ruffle on the sleeve elevates it from being just another ordinary white top – in fact this would look lovely paired with the polka dot skirt above. A real workhorse in your wardrobe, this blouse can be worn on a night out, but also to the office with a pair of black trousers or on weekends paired with some jeans and trainers.

Next are playing a blinder this season with their range of tops and the Extreme Sleeve Blouse, with its boho vibe and floaty fabric just oozes romance. Perfect for Valentine’s Day, this also comes in a red pattern … although I’m not going to lie, I prefer the vintage feel of the ivory colour. Wear with leather trousers, coated skinnies, cigarette pants or even some distressed denim. Gorgeous!

Accessories can often make or break an outfit and with so many lovely options available, it’s easy to breathe new life into an old outfit with a simple addition. This Circular Leather Bag from Cos is available in either red or black and would work for either day or night. A gorgeous soft suede, it can be worn on either on the shoulder or as a cross-body.

Finally, a new piece of jewellery never fails to cheer and the choker is still a very popular option. A cheap and easy way to update a look, this would look great with a round neck sweater or a scoop neck tee or top. The Grey Suede Bow Choker necklace from River Island is a super piece for distracting the eye from psoriasis, which is what we’re always aiming to do.
