Spring wardrobe

Psoriasis spring wardrobe

Spring is most definitely my favourite season. Blue skies, emerging yellow daffodils and the promise of new beginnings never fail to put me in a good mood. You can keep your New Year resolutions – this is the time of year, that for me, is filled with hope and possibility. So armed with such happy thoughts it is only right that we should celebrate by adding a few pieces to our wardrobes that will help to bring it right up to date. Once you have the wardrobe staples in place (e.g. Breton tee, white blazer, good jeans, camel coat, leather cross body bag) then all you need is a few updates to breathe new life to your clothes each season.

It’s time to put away our heavy boots and woolly socks and turn back to an old favourite of mine that still retains its popularity year after year. Clearly, I am talking about the peep toe boot. Effortlessly stylish, this quite simply cries ‘sunshine’ whilst still ensuring that your feet are encased! With truly hot summer weather often only consisting of about 10 days each year, this is an investment that will see you right through to the autumn. Navy is a wonderful colour to choose – less harsh than black, it will look great with denim or white and these Block Heel Side Zip Ankle Boots from Marks & Spencer are also a great price. Just add nail polish!

As much as I adore a smart white blazer for all occasions, this Spring sees the emergence of the biker jacket as the true hero piece. There is an abundance to choose from, both real and faux leather, and a range of colours to suit everyone. The great thing about leather is that any rogue flaking from your scalp will slide away, so no need to worry about that ‘snowy’ shoulder look! Perfect for wearing over maxi dresses, a biker will also look great with jeans, skinnies, maxi skirts and joggers. This Zipped Biker Jacket from Mango is also available in grey, or in classic black for the purists amongst you!

They say if you’ve worn it first time around, you should probably not wear it again. To be honest, this isn’t a rule that I always stick by, but in the case of the oversized denim jacket, I think I will be adhering religiously. (The fact that my teenage daughter now owns one is an excellent deterrent also, it has to be said!) However, for those of you with less years on the calendar than me, this Light Blue Oversized Ripped Denim Jacket from River Island is one item that will bring your wardrobe bang up to date in an instant. Wear with jeans and a huge blanket scarf for those windy Spring days, and then pull on over a simple vest top during the warmer months for instant cool (and coverage).

In my post last month about Valentines Day, I mentioned that Next are continuing to play a blinder this season. Whilst researching this post, I came across the Longline Floral Shirt which is available in either a pale ethereal grey, or in the navy version below. It struck me that this could be such useful piece. Wear loosely over skinnies or flared jeans. If you are of a more petite stature, do a front demi-tuck and leave the back loose, or indeed use a belt to cinch in. Wear open as a jacket over a vest top with jeans or add to a plain coloured sarong to create the perfect beach cover up later in the year. A real wardrobe workhorse!

If you really want to show off your fashion credentials, then this White Tie Front Formal Shirt, also from Next is just the ticket. A cursory glance at any high street store will confirm that this season it’s all about the front tie for shirts. Wear with a pencil skirt, a slim fitting/tube maxi skirt, skinny jeans, or wide side striped trousers. Perfect for work or leisure and a reasonable price for a fashion piece.

Creating a Spring wardrobe is really about adding some lighter, fresher pieces that offer hints of brighter sunnier days to come. Even a splash of colour by way of a handbag, some pastel nail polish or cotton/silk scarf can do wonders to add life to your wardrobe. And let’s face it, after the long, dark days of winter, isn’t that just what the doctor ordered?
